Social Isolation in Dogs

Social Isolation in Dogs

Social Isolation in dogs is often mistaken for destructive or unwanted behaviours.
Owners are often relieved to find that providing their pet with extra attention can resolve the problem.

Common Symptoms

  • Escaping
  • Jumping, digging or climbing to escape
  • Boredom when left alone

Treating Social Isolation

  • Walk your dog daily
  • Regularly play with your dog
  • Provide toys and rotate them to keep your dog interested
  • Spend time with your dog. Try teaching them new tricks or commands
  • Take your dog to socialisation or obedience classes
  • If you expect to be away for long periods, organise for someone to walk your dog
